What we do.

The Injury Prevention Centre works to lower the number of serious injuries in Alberta. We help people and communities learn how to prevent injuries. We focus on the injuries that are causing the most harm, based on the latest data and trends. Our programs and safety campaigns are built using the best research to make sure they really work.

Positioned for success.

The Centre has worked for many years with health workers, partners, and communities across Alberta. We've led successful safety programs on topics like seatbelts and car seats, preventing falls in older adults, and helping people understand how injuries happen. We work closely with Alberta Health Services and other healthcare teams to share resources and avoid doing the same work twice.

The Centre is part of the School of Public Health at the University of Alberta. We are funded by Alberta Health and work to serve the people of Alberta.

"The team at IPC is outstanding. They do an incredible amount of work to prevent injuries of all kinds throughout the province and beyond. They also contribute significantly to a variety of working groups, facilitate networking and play a critical role in advocating for change."

Injury prevention programs work!

Seatbelts save approximately 1,000 lives each year in Canada.1 Thanks our work with the Alberta Occupant Restraint Program (AORP), rural seatbelt use increased from 69% in 1999 to 92% in 2011!2
